Total Consumer Prices versus Book Prices in the EU

The price of books in the EU27 is growing more slowly than the total consumer prices, as measured by the monthly Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP). Between February 2010 and February 2020, the price of books increased by 9%, compared to 14% for total consumer prices. The Harmonised Indices of Consumer Prices (HICP) measure the changes over time in the prices of consumer goods and services acquired by households. They give a comparable measure of inflation as they are calculated according to harmonised definitions.
