A brief history of the Wembley Stadium
97 years ago at the April 28 in 1923, the Wembley Stadium was opened when Bolton beat West Ham 2-0 in the first FA Cup Final. The stadium should later host many historical moments in football history and also other key British events.
“Wembley is the cathedral of football. It is the capital of football and it is the heart of football”, as Pelé put it - one of the greatest players of all time.
In May 1982, even Pope John Paul II celebrated mass in the presence of 80,000 people at Wembley.
