The need to bear arms?
Did you know that the majority of firearms in the world are privately owned? Over 60% of these are owned by Americans, even though America makes up just 5% of the global population. While countries like Japan have a rate of 1 firearm per 100 citizens, this rate goes up to over 120 firearms per 100 citizens in the US, meaning there are more firearms than people in America. This makes it pretty unsurprising that 73% of all homicides in the US were gun-related in 2017, compared to only 3% of homicides in the UK.
