The gap between life expectancy between US citizens and OECD citizens keeps increasing. Despite the US being the country with the highest total health expenditure, with more than $10,000 per capita (PPP). More spending on health care leads to a longer life expectancy. That is true also for the USA. Life expectancy is influenced by many factors, but health expenditure is certainly the most important. Switzerland is the country with the second-highest health expenditure per capita, with life expectancy in 2018 at 83.6, compared to 78.6 in the USA. Japan, on the other hand, is the country with the highest life expectancy, where health care spending was less than half that of the USA at $4,500 per capita.
