Coalition Forming in Germany

With the coalition forming in Germany in 2017 taking almost six months, people in the country are hoping for a quicker process after the election on September 26th this year. Looking at the number of days it took on average could be a hint on how long the process will still take for this period. What is also worth noting is that the three big outliers here (2005, 2013 & 2017) have been the elections where the government was formed by somewhat of a coalition of right-leaning and left-leaning parties respectively. With this period’s election results it is very likely that this will be the case again which might lead the process to out extend the average length again.
