Vizzlo's AI-based chart generatorTop 10 art sales in 2020
2020 was a crazy year in many ways. Covid-19 is the defining topic around the globe. 2020 was the year that a 67-million-year-old skeleton of Tyrannosaurus Rex “Stan” sold for $30.8 million to an unknown bidder. It is the highest price ever paid for a fossil at auction. This ranks Stan as the 8th most expensive ‘art sale’ this year. Scientists have raised concerns about the negative ripple effects the sale could have on the study of dinosaurs by incentivizing people to seek out and sell well-preserved fossils rather than leaving them for paleontologists to study. Paleontologists fear that if the buyer turns out to be a private collector, researchers and the public could lose access to the fossil.
